For Sabina Savage, illustration has always been a language of its own. Her latest collection looks to China’s Song Dynasty, a period when the arts were not merely admired, but actively cultivated—and artists used the natural world to express ideas well beyond what appeared on the page. Animals were painted not simply for their beauty, but for their nature: their character, vitality and meaning. It’s fitting inspiration for an artist like Savage—and a reminder of what can happen when creativity is given room to flourish.
